Park Slope

Welcome to Park Slope

Park Slope is a community-minded neighborhood bordered by Prospect Park, Prospect Heights, Windsor Terrace, and Gowanus. Its name is derived from the gentle incline of its streets, which end at the historic and celebrated park. An iconic example of “Brownstone Brooklyn,” Park Slope is famous for its picturesque blocks and residential feel. Park Slope residents enjoy convenient access to several major cultural institutions, as well as the Olmsted and Vaux-designed, 526-acre Prospect Park. Meanwhile, the homes of Park Slope represent a diverse array of architectural periods and styles. You can find historic brownstones, single-family limestones, pre-war co-ops, and modern condo buildings with luxury amenities.

Homes

A northern section of Park Slope is designated as an Historic District, known for its diverse collection of architectural styles such as late Italianate, Greek Revival, Victorian Gothic, and some of the finest examples of Romanesque Revival residences in the country. Some of these buildings are maintained as single-family homes, while others have been renovated to house individual apartments. You won’t find high-rise construction in Park Slope. However, luxury condos in both historic buildings and new developments offer residents concierge services and amenities such as fitness centers, roof decks, entertainment spaces, and more.

The homes of Park Slope are an incredible architectural cross-section of the building styles between the 1850s to 1920s. As you stroll these streets, take a closer look at the facades of the homes and you will encounter some inspiring stone artistry of carved faces, flowers, animals, and mythical creatures.

Every block along Prospect Park has its own special character and historic homes, with some of my favorites being Carroll, Montgomery, Garfield, and 3rd and 4th Streets.

The Lifestyle

Almost like a lively and vibrant suburb of Manhattan, Park Slope offers the best of city and suburban living. Residents enjoy a slightly slower pace, greener surroundings, and sophisticated culture and entertainment, with the option of a quick commute into the city for work or play. Because Park Slope is comparatively larger than many other Brooklyn neighborhoods, its character is dynamic. Brownstone blocks along Prospect Park are dignified and timeless, while streets along Fifth Avenue are influenced by the urban activity of Flatbush and nearby Gowanus. South Slope, with its quaint townhomes and largely residential streets, is on the quieter side.

While there are so many great neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Park Slope has always been my favorite. I think the breadth and diversity it offers is hard to beat. It has everything from beautiful Prospect Park to a range of diverse recreation, transportation, shopping, and dining options. Its schools have a great reputation and it’s just a short commute to Manhattan.

Park Slope is a calm oasis in a metropolitan area. It reminds me of a leafy London suburb: so close to town but without the anxiety of being in the middle of busy city life.

This neighborhood gave me all the green and sky and nature I was missing in the city, a quieter calmer life, yet at my fingertips was still everything...so I didnt have to give up the incredible world of Manhattan.

Outdoors

With its ease of access to Prospect Park, as well as plenty of gardens and local green spaces, Park Slope is aptly named. Residents enjoy a perfect balance of city living and the quiet, natural beauty of the suburbs.

Prospect Park is a walkers/runners/bikers/strollers dream. You can do the whole circuit in about an hour at a leisurely pace. The park is beautifully designed with woodland trails that feature waterfalls, streams and ravines, the Lake, the Boathouse, the Carousel, the Zoo—not to mention the great hike to the top of Lookout Hill.
- David Carter, Real Estate Agent

Prospect Park is a great place to hang out any time of year, from lying on a blanket and people-watching at the Long Meadow or listening to great music in the summer, to taking hikes along the various trails in the fall and even cross-country skiing after a big snowfall in winter.
- Steven Segretta, Real Estate Agent

Fifth Avenue Open Boulevard every weekend is exceptional for dining, strolling, and people-watching. Every few blocks you hear a different singer-songwriter or small band performing on the corner or at an outdoor restaurant.
